Apparently, “stick to sports” is a one way street. Or at least that appears to be the case for Fox News pundit Laura Ingraham, who delivered a bizarre harangue rife with alternative truth in response to LeBron James’ latest biting criticism of President Trump in a new video. Outside of Ingraham’s faithful audience, the response to this egregiously awful hot take has been derision for its content, lack of probity and hypocrisy.

Never has the above meme been more appropriate. For one, the right wing personality falsely claimed James left high school a year early, which could have been verified with a simple fact check. Of course, this isn’t the first time Ingraham has used James to fabricate information.

Rather than compliment a successful individual, who hailed from flyover country, bypassed the liberal echo chambers her ilk often rails about, before returning to provide an economic rejuvenation for the area, she blew racial dog whistles by remarking that he is unintelligible. Ingraham also wondered aloud why “they run their mouths,” a curious take for a lawyer and First Amendment proponent who emits verbal discharge for a living.

Ingraham’s frivolous observation that “nobody” voted for James, but that millions voted Trump to be their coach would be a surprise to the 2.6 million voters who made James a captain of this weekend’s All-Star Game.

Her conclusion that James should “shut up and dribble a basketball,” was an especially confusing take for someone who is employed by a network that once touted high school graduate, Glenn Beck as one its leading anti-Obama voices and whose show leads into one hosted by a college dropout.

Producing bad takes is a very underrated skill and Ingraham should be commended for her poor effort. If there were Bad Take Olympics, this would be a wipeout worthy of a fool’s gold medal.
