Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy joins NBC Sports as college football analyst

Former Texas football star Colt McCoy has officially retired after 14 NFL seasons, but that doesn’t mean the Longhorns’ all-time leading passer won’t stay involved in the game.

McCoy has joined NBC Sports as a game analyst and in-studio guest covering Big Ten football, NBC Sports announced Monday. He will make his debut as the analyst for the broadcast of the Colorado at Nebraska game Sept. 7 on NBC and Peacock.

“College football has always held a special place in my heart,” McCoy said in a Monday news release. “With the expansion of the Big Ten and new era of college football, it is the perfect time to join NBC Sports. I can’t wait to share in the passion, excitement and competitive spirit every week.”

McCoy last played football in 2022 and totaled 7,975 yards and 34 touchdown passes for five different teams. He recently announced his retirement in a YouTube video. He started his broadcasting career in 2023 calling USFL games for NBC Sports.

An unheralded recruit from tiny Jim Ned High School in West Texas, McCoy set numerous records in his four years as a starter for Texas from 2006-09. He finished his collegiate career as the winningest quarterback in NCAA Division I history with 45 victories and was the only Texas player in school history to win or share his team’s MVP award all four years.

As a redshirt senior in 2009, McCoy was a Heisman Trophy finalist and Maxwell Award winner while leading the Longhorns to a 12-0 regular season, a Big 12 championship and a berth in the 2010 BCS national championship game. Additionally, McCoy was named the Walter Camp Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, being one of three players to win the award twice.

McCoy was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.

Former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy will work as an in-game anaylist and studio host covering the Big Ten for NBC Sports this season, NBC Sports announced Monday.
