Alaysha Johnson has been running without a sponsor early in her post-college career. She may not have a sponsor, but now she has a national championship.

Johnson, who ran her last year of college in 2019 for Texas Tech, won the women's 60-meter hurdles Saturday at the U.S. indoor track and field championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She ran a time of 7.83 seconds, edging Tonea Marshall, who clocked 7.85.

Johnson, a 26-year-old from Spring, transferred to Tech after four years at Oregon.

The U.S. title was her first. She was runner-up last year in both the 60-meter hurdles at the U.S. indoor championships and in the 100-meter hurdles at the U.S. outdoor.

EL PASO — Makinzy Herzog hit two of Texas Tech's single-game record six home runs, helping the Red Raiders outslug Santa Clara 16-14 Sunday and finish undefeated in the Texas-El Paso tournament.

Carson Armijo drove in six runs with a grand slam and a two-run single as Tech (9-2) won its eighth game in a row. Abbie Orrick, Madelyn Saven and tournament MVP Kailey Wyckoff also homered. Saven's was a three-run shot and she also had a sacrifice fly.

Herzog, Arriana Villa and pitcher Kendall Fritz also made the all-tournament team.

Sage Hoover (5-0) got the win.

In Saturday's late game, Herzog delivered a tiebreaking two-run double in the seventh inning that lifted Tech to an 8-6 victory over UTEP. Herzog's shot to right-center came with no outs off Zaylie Calderon (2-2), who pitched a complete game.

The Red Raiders rallied from a 3-0 deficit against the Miners (4-5). Ellie Bailey's two-run homer tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning, and Wyckoff followed two batters later with a solo shot. Wyckoff unloaded a two-run homer in the sixth that gave the Red Raiders a 6-5 lead.
