Former Ohio State QB Quinn Ewers talks decision to enter transfer portal, return to Texas

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers said on ESPN's "College GameDay" that near the end of his freshman season at Ohio State, he already had thoughts in his mind of leaving Columbus.

"Definitely had some thoughts in my mind at the very end before I hit the portal," Ewers told ESPN's Pete Thamel. "It was really just talking through it with my dad. I have a good group of people surrounding me, just kind of putting it by them, seeing what they thought."

Ewers, a former five-star, initially committed to Texas out of Southlake Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, but decommitted and flipped to Ohio State before reclassifying and joining the Buckeyes after his junior high school season.

Ewers was one of two Ohio State quarterbacks to transfer from the program after 2021 along with Jack Miller III, who transferred to Florida.

Since he arrived at Texas, Ewers said he's met former Longhorns quarterbacks Vince Young and Colt McCoy, who have just encouraged him to be himself.

"They really just tell me to play my game," Ewers said. "Don't focus on the outside noise. Just be me."
