Former MLB player Omar Vizquel sued by bat boy, accused of sexual harassment

Former major league player Omar Vizquel was sued in U.S. District Court after being accused of sexual harassment while he was the manager of a Chicago White Sox minor league affiliate.

Conduct Detrimental first posted the lawsuit on its website.

The 25-year-old man says that while he was a bat boy for the Birmingham Barons, the White Sox's Class AA affiliate, Vizquel used "sexually aggressive behavior," including when he allegedly "deliberately exposed his erect or partially erect penis" to the accuser.

The man also accuses Vizquel of stripping naked and after emerging from the shower, handing the man a bar of soap and demanding that the man wash his back.

According to the lawsuit, the man was "humiliated, intimidated, and frightened of what would happen if he disobeyed" and complied with Vizquel's demand. The bat boy has autism, and he filed a discrimination charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The lawsuit also names the Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox as defendants, accusing them of “negligent and/or wanton supervision, training and/or retention."

The man is seeking back pay and damages.

"After first learning of an alleged incident in late August 2019, the Chicago White Sox conducted an internal investigation that resulted in the termination of the organization's relationship with Omar Vizquel. Because this is active litigation, at this time the White Sox will not comment further regarding the allegations included in this lawsuit," the White Sox said in a statement.

Vizquel, 54, was an 11-time Gold Glove winner during his MLB playing days. The league also investigated domestic abuse allegations made by Vizquel's wife last year.
