Former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh given suspension, show-cause by NCAA: Social media reacts

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day shakes hands with Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh following the NCAA football game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021. Michigan won 42-27.

Former Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh on Wednesday received a one-year suspension and four-year show-cause in relation to Michigan's recruiting violations during the COVID-19 dead period.

The now-Los Angeles Chargers coach — who left the program in January after leading the Wolverines to their first national title since the 1997 season — was deemed to have shown “unethical conduct” and a failure to promote “an atmosphere of compliance."

Harbaugh's show-cause will run effective immediately from Aug. 7, 2024 through Aug. 6, 2028. If Harbaugh were to leave the NFL return to the college ranks, he would be suspended for the entirety of his first season with that program.

While this has no impact on past games between the Wolverines and Buckeyes — Harbaugh won three straight games over Ohio State, including a 30-24 win in 2023 — it didn't hold back Ohio State fans from voicing their opinions about Harbaugh and "that team up north."
