Former Florida State quarterback James Blackman reports to Dolphins training camp

For the first time since 2020, James Blackman is suiting up in the Sunshine State.

The former Florida State quarterback is back in Florida, training with the Miami Dolphins.

A video tweeted by the Dolphins on Thursday shows the Belle Glades native walking out on the rest of the Dolphins' quarterbacks: Tua Tagovailoa, Skylar Thompson and Mike White.

Blackman played for the Seminoles from 2017 to 2020, making 30 appearances. He played in all 12 games in the 2017 and 2019 seasons. In both years he passed for over 2,000 yards and had 19 touchdowns during the 2017 season. He held a 12-15 record during his time in Tallahassee and helped the Seminoles to a 42-13 win over Southern Mississippi in the 2017 Independence Bowl.

In 2020, he had played in only three games before he informed the FSU coaching staff that he'd opt out the rest of the season. He later transferred to Arkansas State in January 2021. At Arkansas State, he played in 19 games from 2021 to 2022, passing for 3,815 yards and 22 touchdowns.

He went undrafted following the 2023 NFL Draft but later signed with the Dolphins in May.

Blackman's hometown of Belle Glade is about 90 minutes from Miami.

Blackman's status is currently listed as active on the Dolphins roster.

The Dolphins' first game of the preseason is on Aug. 11, when they host Atlanta. FSU begins its fall practices on August 3 and its first game is against LSU on September 3 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
