Former Chiles baseball star and Alabama catcher announces transfer to Florida State

A former Chiles High baseball standout is coming home.

Former Alabama catcher Jaxson West announced his decision to transfer to Florida State on social media Thursday afternoon.

He's the ninth player to transfer to the Seminoles, joining head coach Link Jarrett as he embarks on his second season.

As a freshman with the Crimson Tide, West went 5-for-27 (.185 average) with a home run, five RBI and walked seven times.

His last game action came on May 26 against Vanderbilt. His lone home run was a go-ahead two-run home run against Missouri on April 21.

West was one of many Crimson Tide players to enter the portal after Rob Vaughn was hired as the Alabama head coach.

Alabama outfielder Max Williams announced his decision to transfer to FSU on June 1.

As a senior at Chiles, West hit .321 in 105 plate appearances with a home run, 19 RBI, seven runs scored and six doubles, earning first-team honors on the Democrat's All-Big Bend first-team in 2022.

West, who is listed at 6-foot, 195-pounds and hits left-handed, is a candidate for starting catching duties following the graduation of Colton Vincent.

That same day, current FSU player James Tibbs announced that he was returning to Tallahassee for his junior season.

Faurot, a 6-foot-3 shortstop known for his versatility, was a unanimous selection to the American Athletic Conference Freshman All-Conference Team. He started 57 games, hit .252, and had 51 RBI.
