The Montreal Canadiens opened the 2024-25 season with a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the contest, the club faced two former players, Max Domi and Max Pacioretty. Both were held pointless as the visitors didn't get any pucks past Sam Montembeault, who pitched a 47-save shutout.

However, Domi and Pacioretty were not the only former players on Wednesday night who couldn't find their names on the score sheet.

In Edmonton, the Oilers were blanked by the Winnipeg Jets 6-0, leaving Corey Perry pointless in his 20th season-opener, and Brett Kulak didn't get on the scoresheet in 16:43 of ice time.

In another lopsided 6-0 win, the Pittsburgh Penguins were shut out by the New York Rangers; Lars Ellers could not get anything past Igor Shesterkin despite four shots on goal.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Drouin, a member of the Colorado Avalanche, did not get in on any of his team's four goals in an 8-4 defeat at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Meanwhile, Tomas Tatar had a head start as he was part of the International games, but he didn't register any points in the New Jersey Devils' sweep of the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL Global Series in Prague, Czechia, last week.

Although the NHL season is only two days old, several former Montreal players, including Jeff Petry, Tyler Toffoli, and Phillip Danault, are scheduled to make their debuts in the coming days.
