Former Canadiens Forward Out Indefinitely

The Colorado Avalanche picked up their first regular season win on Friday night, rallying back to defeat the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 in overtime. Unfortunately, the Avalanche has struggled out of the gate (1-4-0), dealing with many injuries, including forward Jonathan Drouin.

The native of Ste-Agathe, QC, played six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens from 2018 to 2023, signing with the Avalanche in the summer of 2023, where he would have a career year with 56 points in 79 games last year.

However, in the season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights, Drouin suffered an upper-body injury after a hit from Nicolas Hage and has missed the team's past four games.

Despite returning to practice on Saturday, it was announced that Drouin will not join Colorado on their upcoming three-game road trip that runs through San Jose, Seattle, and Utah.

Head coach Jared Bednar said Drouin would miss some time, but the club hopes he'll be ready for their next home game on Oct. 27 against the Ottawa Senators.

As a former third overall pick (2013), Drouin is an 11-year NHL veteran with 96 goals and 337 points in 565 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Canadiens, and Avalanche.
