Former Canadiens Defenseman Fails To Make Jackets Top Six

For the last two seasons, Jordan Harris, a former third-round pick (71st overall at the 2018 draft), has been a member of the Montreal Canadiens and part of the rotation on the blue line.

Alongside Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, and Jonathan Kovacevic, Harris rotated in and out of the lineup dressing for 65 games in 2022-23 and 56 games in 2023-24. Last Summer, waiver wire pick up Kovacevic was sent packing in a trade with the New Jersey Devils while Harris was used to acquire both sniper Patrik Laine and a 2026 second-round pick.

Benefiting from the trade, Lane Hutson has beaten other contenders such as Logan Mailloux and David Reinbacher (who wasn't on track to pierce the lineup when he was injured) to take Harris' former spot and make the 23-man roster.

Meanwhile in Columbus, it look like the newcomer hasn't done enough to earn a top six post. According to Aaron Portzline from The Athletic, Harris was lining up as an extra at practice yesterday. Furthermore, the Columbus Dispatch also lists him as an extra and it looks like he could be involved in a rotation in Ohio as well.
