Former 5-star Aden Holloway enters transfer portal after one season at Auburn basketball
AUBURN — Aden Holloway has entered the transfer portal after spending one season with Auburn basketball, a source told the Montgomery Advertiser on Tuesday.
A former five-star recruit in the Class of 2023 who came to the Plains with high expectations as a McDonald's All-American, Holloway had a hot start to his collegiate career; the 6-foot-1 North Carolina native averaged 12 points and 3.6 assists through his first 10 games with the Tigers. He also knocked down 39.7% of his 3-pointers.
Holloway, who's been a gifted shooter at every stop of his basketball journey, then fell into a slump. The next 16 games saw his averages drop to 5.5 points and 2.3 assists, and his rate from beyond the arc fell to 22%.
"I've never experienced that ever in my basketball career," Holloway said March 13 of his struggles. He shot 33.3% from deep over Auburn's final nine games, including a 5-for-8 performance at Georgia on Feb. 24. His scoring was needed majorly against the Bulldogs, as the Tigers were without All-SEC forward Jaylin Williams.

One thing that never slipped for Holloway was his knack for taking care of the ball. He finished the 2023-24 season with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.03, according to College Basketball Analytics. That mark ranked No. 4 in the SEC behind Florida's Zyon Pullin (3.77) and South Carolina's Ta'lon Cooper (3.51) and Jacobi Wright (3.05).
Holloway was one of four freshmen in the country to have an assist-to-turnover ratio better than 3.00.
Auburn has inked four other five-star recruits in the modern recruiting era to go along with Holloway: Sharife Cooper in the Class of 2020, Jabari Smith in the Class of 2021, Yohan Traore in the Class of 2022 and Tahaad Pettiford in the Class of 2024.
Cooper and Smith went to the NBA after two one-and-done seasons, Traore transferred to California-Santa Barbara in April 2023 and Pettiford is set to embark on his freshman season in November.
Holloway will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
