Former 1st-round NFL draft pick Caleb Farley returns to Tennessee Titans practice Wednesday
For the first time in more than a year, Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley returned to the practice field Wednesday.
The Titans' first-round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2021, Farley hasn't practiced since the team put him on injured reserve because of a back injury last November. He's been on the team's physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp. Per NFL rules, the team has a 21-day window after he's began practicing to activate him back to the active roster or else end his season. Given that there are a maximum 18 days left in the Titans' season, Farley can continue practicing through the end of the year without having to be activated or shut down.
Despite opening his return to practice window, the Titans have not officially elevated Farley off the physically unable to perform list. Farley would not be eligible to play in games until he's elevated to the active roster.
After stretching but before practice started in earnest, coach Mike Vrabel gathered the team together to recognize Farley for the hard work he's put in to return from the injury. Farley has played in only 12 games with the Titans, dealing with season-ending injuries in 2021 and 2022. He was benched from playing defense prior to his injury in 2022 and was relegated mostly to special teams.
Farley also endured tragedy this offseason when an explosion at his house in North Carolina resulted in his father's death.
Other transactions
The Titans put wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine on injured reserve, ending his season. Westbrook-Ikhine is the Titans' third-leading receiver with 370 yards this season, and is second on the team with three touchdown catches.
The Titans also signed linebacker Garrett Wallow from the Houston Texans practice squad to the active roster.
