Next month's Kaulig Companies Championship, where the top PGA golfers 50 and older can compete, is promised to be "much more" than a golf tournament in Akron.

The event will run July 10-14 at Firestone Country Club at 452 East Warner Road, marking the venue's 71st year of tournament golf.

With concerts, a bourbon and cigar lounge, a kid's zone and an appearance from Peyton Manning, people do not need to be a golf fan to check out the four-day tournament.

There's also a focus on giving back. More than 40 non-profit organizations, including Akron Children's Hospital, the Lebron James Foundation and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, benefitted from last year's event.

"We really think that it's through this platform of professional golf so that we can make some real, real change within these organizations and really help them raise money," Tim Clepper, Kaulig Companies' president and CEO, said at the event's media day Tuesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland. "Really what we want to do is give."

What is the Kaulig Companies Championship?

The tournament is one of dozens on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule. Steve Stricker, last year's champion and a 34-year pro, and Ernie Els, a 35-year pro who has won numerous national and international tournaments, will play alongside other qualifiers.

This is the second year with Kaulig Companies as the title sponsor of the event.

Kaulig Companies is a private, Hudson-based business that has ties in sporting, entertainment, home products, financial services ad philanthropy. The brand owns LeafFilter, the "largest gutter protection company in the nation," according to its website.

Clepper and Matt Kaulig, executive chairman and owner, lead the company.

"The reason we wanted to get involved is the philanthropic aspect of what the PGA does and what this tournament is all about," Kaulig said. "We want to support the community. We're all about Northeast Ohio. We're all about Akron."

The event will stream on the Golf Channel and in over 130 countries, Don Padgett, executive director of the Kaulig Companies Championship, said.

How can I get tickets?

A ticket for all four days costs $75. The weekly Clubhouse ticket, which allows people to watch the tournament on TVs and purchase food and drinks inside Firestone's clubhouse, is $200.

A single ticket for July 10 is $10, Clubhouse is $30. Single tickets for July 11-14 are $25 a piece, Clubhouse is $60 each.

People can also purchase ticket packages, and those buying at least two tickets before June 16 will get a green "MONSTER" baseball cap, named after the South Course's 16th hole.

Children 18 years and younger can access the grounds for free with a paying adult, though they cannot enter the grounds with the food, drinks and concerts. Veterans, first responders and current military personnel can receive complimentary tickets.

General parking at 2620 Harrington Road is free with a complimentary shuttle to the grounds.

What is the fundraising goal?

The tournament raised $1.23 million last year, Padgett said, which was a record for any golf event at Firestone. This year, he said the goal is to raise a "couple" million dollars.

What are the highlights of this year's Kaulig Companies Championship?

The golf tournament play begins begins July 11, with concerts following play July 11-13. International touring artists and local talent are scheduled for each day, including county singer Kameron Marlowe for the Military Appreciation Concert July 12. The first-place trophy will be handed out July 14.

Five food trucks, drink lounges, dog-petting opportunities and interactive activities like putting challenges and simulations will come to the grounds.

Peyton Manning will receive a 2024 Ambassador of Golf award at the tournament. Working with the nonprofit Folds of Honor, 13 local kids of fallen military personnel will receive scholarships during the week.
