Flyers Have Fascinating Trade Target From Maple Leafs

When looking at the Philadelphia Flyers' roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another right-shot defenseman. An interesting young one has hit the trade market and could be a solid addition to Philadelphia's roster: Toronto Maple Leafs defender Timothy Liljegren.

In his latest 32 Thoughts column for Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Maple Leafs are pushing to trade Liljegren. Here is what Friedman said on the matter:

"Sounds like Toronto is working to find a landing spot for Timothy Liljegren. He's down the depth chart, not a situation anyone is happy with."

Liljegren, 25, is a former first-round pick who has had some solid moments in the NHL. For example, during this past season with the Maple Leafs, he had three goals and 23 points – a current career-high – in 55 games. However, with Liljegren now being lower on the Maple Leafs' depth chart, it makes sense that both the player and the team are looking for a fresh start.

With the Flyers rebuilding and needing some help on the right side of their defense, Liljegren could be a great player for them to take a shot on. If acquired by the Flyers, he would at least work on their bottom pairing. However, he also could compete for top-four minutes and power-play time if he took that next step. A change of scenery could help him do just that, as he has never played more than 67 games in a season with Toronto.

Nevertheless, with Liljegren already having a few good seasons on his resume while being underused by the Maple Leafs, he could be a nice player for a rebuilding club like the Flyers to bring in. In 196 career NHL games over five seasons, he has 14 goals, 51 assists, 65 points, and a plus-38 rating.
