Florida State football lands transfer linebacker from Northwestern

Florida State football is adding another player in the transfer portal, just weeks before kicking off fall camp.

Northwestern linebacker transfer Justin Cryer told Noles247 he has committed to the Seminoles.

Following the firing of Wildcats' head coach Pat Fitzgerald due to the ongoing hazing scandal at the school, any Northwestern football player is permitted to enter the Transfer Portal and granted immediate eligibility at their new school, per NCAA rules.

Cryer, a 6-foot-2, 225-pounder, became the second NU player to enter the portal on July 19, following the firing. According to Noles247, he is expected to enroll in classes Friday. Safety Nigel Glover entered the portal on July 17 and has yet to announce a new school.

Cryer was rated as a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and as the No. 125 linebacker in the country and the No. 246 player in the state of Texas. He recorded 95 tackles, six sacks and 20 tackles for loss as a senior at Royal High in Brookshire, TX

He picked the Wildcats over offers from FSU, Georgia Tech, Tulane, Arizona State, Arkansas and SMU out of high school.

Cryer's elder brother, LJ Cryer, recently transferred to Houston. He averaged 15 points per game last season for Baylor.
