Florida State football lands top tier cornerback, second 5-star commit out of 2024 recruiting class
One of the top players in the recruiting Class of 2024 is headed to Florida State.
5-star cornerback Charles Lester III announced his commitment to FSU on Friday over Colorado, Alabama and Georgia.
It's the Seminoles' second 5-star pickup, joining 5-star tight end Landen Thomas in Tallahassee, and steals one away from Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
Lester has made multiple visits to Tallahassee and confirmed silently to local media on his June 16 visit that he'd be committing to FSU. Sanders and Colorado did make a late push for Lester, adding another visit this past week on Wednesday.
Lester is the third defensive back addition out of the Class of 2024 and the first cornerback
He played for Sarasota Riverview last fall but has since transferred to Venice for his senior season. The Indians finished as Class 4S state runner-ups last fall.
In his junior year campaign, he had 18 tackles and one interception. On offense, he had 354 receiving yards, 34 receptions, and four touchdowns. He joins a Venice receiving core that had 1,729 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, likely getting a boost from Lester's addition.
The commitment also adds another chapter to the Sanders/FSU saga.
Lester's recruiting cycle showed similarities to Travis Hunter back in 2021 when he de-committed from FSU and committed to Sander's Jackson State program. This offseason, FSU lost Derrick McLendon II and Brendan Gant to Colorado in the portal.
The Seminoles' 2024 recruiting class features 18 commitments and now ranks No. 8 nationally, according to 247Sports.
It is also currently the highest ranked class in the ACC, ahead of No. 9 Clemson (17 commitments) and No. 16 Miami (18 commitments )and high-ranked class under coach Mike Norvell.
