Florida High senior defensive back commits to Clemson, joins teammate in ACC commitment
From the fields of Southwood to Death Valley, Florida High senior Ashton Hampton has committed to Clemson.
Hampton announced via social media his decision to represent the Tigers at the collegiate level. The six-foot-two-inch defensive back will join a Clemson team that went 11-3 last season, losing in the Orange Bowl to Tennessee.

The Florida High senior is ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and had narrowed down his commitment to six schools; Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Miami, Arkansas and LSU.
In his junior year, Hampton appeared on the All-Big Bend Second-team for both offense and defense. Staring for a Florida High team that made a run to the state championship, Hampton really excelled on the defensive side of the ball.
Totaling 48 tackles and an interception, Hampton developed respect from opposing offenses as they tried to avoid throwing within his coverage area. Known for making big hits, Hampton is likely going to get people out of their seats at Memorial Stadium.
Hampton joins a Clemson program under Dabo Sweeney that has dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference for the last decade, appearing in four national title games, winning in 2016 and 2018 and losing in 2015 and 2019.
Hampton will return to Tallahassee every season, as the rivalry between Clemson and FSU will give the Big Bend a chance to watch him at the next level. When he makes his return he'll be taking on his Florida High teammate Michai Danzy, who committed to FSU.
Florida High will kick off its season on August 25 against Trinity Catholic.
