Five things to know about new Colorado OL coach Phil Loadholt
The Colorado Buffaloes’ coaching staff has undergone a lot of changes early on this offseason, and a lot of that has to do with Sean Lewis leaving to become the head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs.
Others have followed, and the Buffs hired Phil Loadholt as the new offensive line coach after Bill O’Boyle left to join Lewis in San Diego.
Loadholt has a lot of experience and played in the NFL, so this is a big hire by Deion Sanders, who has been working hard already to improve the Buffs’ offensive line.
Here are five things you should know about Loadholt:
BLOCKED FOR ADRIAN PETERSON AND BRETT FAVRE
Loadholt was drafted by the Vikings and played in Minnesota from 2009-15, overlapping with Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre during his time there.
PLAYED HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN COLORADO
Loadholt played high school football at Fountain-Fort Carson in Fountain, Colorado, so he’s plenty familiar with his new home.
FORMER JUCO PLAYER
Loadholt began his college career at Garden City Community College and was a two-time junior college All-American.
TIME AT OKLAHOMA
Loadholt then transferred to Oklahoma and made a massive impact. He blocked for Sam Bradford in his final season and also cleared the path for DeMarco Murray. After his playing days, Loadholt was an offensive analyst at Oklahoma from 2022-23.
NFL CAREER
Loadholt had a strong career in the NFL, which began in 2009 when he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team. He started in all 89 games that he played in his career before tearing his Achilles in 2015 and retiring.
