Five Columbus-area basketball players nominated for McDonald's All-American games
Five central Ohio basketball players are among 724 nominees nationally for the McDonald’s All-American games, the organization announced Tuesday.
Africentric’s Kamryn Grant and Natiah Nelson and Pickerington Central’s Berry Wallace have been nominated for the girls game, while Delaware Hayes’ Jesse Burris and Braylen Nash from New Albany are boys nominees.
All are seniors.
Both games are scheduled for April 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Nelson, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward and DePaul signee, helped lead the Nubians to the Division III state championship last winter. Grant, a 5-11 forward who has signed with Dayton, missed most of last season because of a torn ACL.
Wallace, a 6-1 forward who will play at Illinois, is the top returnee from Central’s Division I state semifinalist team of a season ago.
Burris is a 6-5 guard who has signed with Ohio University. Delaware reached a Division I district final last winter and came up a win short of its first district championship since 1986.
Nash, a 6-4 guard, has started throughout his career for New Albany and also played quarterback for the Eagles’ football team.
Fifteen Ohio players, eight girls and seven boys, were nominated.
The final teams of 24 girls and 24 boys will be unveiled Jan. 24 on ESPN.
