Falcons Wire staff picks NFL Week 2 matchup against the Eagles
The Atlanta Falcons (0-1) and the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) will face off on ESPN's Monday Night Football in the final game of Week 2. Both teams entered the year with playoff expectations but only the Eagles have played up to them thus far. The Falcons began the season with an 18-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers while Philadelphia outlasted the Packers in a 34-29 shootout.
The Eagles are six-point favorites but they may not have their top wide receiver. A.J. Brown was listed as questionable after missing Saturday's practice due to hamstring tightness. Atlanta ruled out linebacker Nate Landman and cornerback Antonio Hamilton. The game starts at 8:15 p.m. ET (watch, listen, stream) on ESPN.
Which team will win Monday night's NFC showdown in Philadelphia? Check out our Falcons Wire staff picks for Week 2 below:
Crissy Froyd: Loss
The Falcons looked disastrous on offense in the season-opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the defensive effort was more than respectable. Atlanta did not allow a touchdown from its opponent for the first time since Week 13 of the 2023 season, though the pass rush could have been better at times. The Eagles had their fair share of mistakes in Brazil to kick things off but will prevail here as the stronger team behind the trio of Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Eagles 31, Falcons 17 -- Crissy Froyd
Deen Worley: Win
The Falcons need to find a way to get the season back in order because right now, the team is staring down the barrel of a winless opening month. Starting 0-2 with the Kansas City Chiefs coming to town is something Atlanta simply can't afford. The team also can't afford to bail on Kirk Cousins regardless of what happens in Week 2. The Falcons gave Cousins a lot of money this offseason, so until the season is lost, calling for rookie QB Michael Penix likely won’t result in much. Falcons 24, Eagles 20 -- Deen Worley
Matt Urben: Win
While the Falcons did little to inspire confidence in Week 1, I don't think the Eagles are unbeatable. Green Bay dropped 29 points on Philadelphia's defense, rushing for 163 yards and passing for another 260. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions on balls that were late and over the middle. Hurts could get into more trouble if he tests Atlanta's safety duo of Justin Simmons and Jessie Bates. Philadelphia has gone 3-5 over its last eight games, with two of those wins coming against the lowly Giants. The Falcons will escape Lincoln Financial Field with a one-point victory. Falcons 21, Eagles 20 -- Matt Urben
