Falcons Twitter reacts to CB A.J. Terrell signing 4-year extension
The Atlanta Falcons continue to make major moves under head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. One week after trading for Pro Bowl edge rusher Matthew Judon and signing Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons, the team has given cornerback A.J. Terrell a four-year, $81 million contract extension.
Terrell, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie deal and now becomes one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL with $65.4 million in guaranteed money. Over his first four seasons, Terrell has been a model of consistency on a defense that's gone through multiple coordinators.
Atlanta selected the former Clemson standout in the first round of the 2020 draft. The surrounding talent has been questionable at best for much of Terrell's time in Atlanta, but the team has a new mentality since signing quarterback Kirk Cousins at the start of free agency.
The Falcons are going all in for 2024 and those around the league have noticed. Check out how fans and teammates responded to Terrell's extension on Twitter.

I’m eagerly awaiting to see how Terrell’s contract is structured. The Falcons can save up to $9 million against the cap this season on it. If they choose to maximize 2024 savings that would possibly indicate that they aren’t finished in the free agent market.

Will the Atlanta Falcons' Costco-like approach work?

This last week for the #Falcons has been unreal. Raheem Morris has set the tone for the 2024 season and beyond. I'm still trying to find those people who were pounding the table for BB. pic.twitter.com/gUabupIvaG

The #Falcons added a league-high $144M of guarantees to their roster via free agency, $3.4M guaranteed via the draft, $66M guaranteed to A.J. Terrell, & a $7.5M practical guarantee for recently acquired Matt Judon.
And their hot dogs still cost $2— Spotrac (@spotrac) August 22, 2024

Woke up and saw this. AJ got the bag, which I knew would happen. However, I can’t help but wonder if they did this earlier in the year that it wouldn’t have been this inflated. He’s a good CB no doubt but whew! That being said, congrats young brotha!! 💰💰💰💰 https://t.co/mqxDigfUXm

Fantastic deal for one of the most underrated players in the league. Works out to about 20.5/year. Really excited/happy that AJ will be sticking around, and an obvious great scheme fit in what coach Raheem trying to do here in ATL! https://t.co/O3bNIuWFHh

My guess is it's 4 years tacked onto the current year on his deal. https://t.co/XyzoAORxZY
