Falcons complete virtual interview with Lions OC Ben Johnson
The Atlanta Falcons conducted a virtual interview with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson just hours after Detroit’s postseason win over the Buccaneers on Sunday evening. Johnson is the 13th candidate that the Falcons have interviewed for their head coach vacancy thus far.
The #Falcons did indeed interview Ben Johnson tonight, beating the deadline to be allowed a second interview during the Super Bowl bye week if Detroit advances that far. And four interviews in 48 hours before kickoff clearly didn’t distract Johnson or his offense today. https://t.co/uEKEuY2cJl

Johnson is largely credited for resurrecting the career of Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Detroit’s creative play-calling has helped the team win two playoff games and an NFC North title for the first time in 30 years.
The Falcons previously interviewed Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as well. On Sunday, the team also completed an interview with Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
As noted by ESPN’s Michael Rothstein below, 11 of the 13 interviews have been virtual.
In all, the Falcons have interviewed 13 head coaching candidates so far — and one, Bill Belichick, has been interviewed twice.
Of note there, only Belichick & Jim Harbaugh, prior to tomorrow, have been allowed to interview in person due to NFL rules.
