EX Inter Milan & Switzerland Winger Warns Young Boys About Star Goalkeeper: “Not Easy To Score Against Sommer”
Former Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri has fired a warning to Young Boys over Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
During his recent interview with Blue Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the new Basel forward praised his ex-international teammate’s goalkeeping skills.
Yann Sommer and Shaqiri shared the dressing room at the Switzerland national team for over a decade.
Both players retired from international football after the Nati failed to make it out of the EURO 2024 quarter-finals.
As for Shaqiri, he returned to European football this summer to join his boyhood club Basel.
Indeed, after a two-year stint at Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire, the 33-year-old is home again.
Basel’s fiercest domestic rivals will trade tackles with Inter in tonight’s UEFA Champions League fixture in Bern.
Shaqiri is familiar with both sides.
While facing Young Boys frequently during his playing career in Switzerland, he briefly wore the Nerazzurri shirt.
He moved to Giuseppe Meazza from Bayern Munich in January 2015.
Inter paid the record-time Bundesliga champions €15 million to land Shaqiri.
However, failing to find his footing in Serie A, the diminutive forward left the club to link up with Stoke City.

If anyone understands Sommer’s goalkeeping qualities, it’s Shaqiri.
They used to be national team colleagues for over ten years.
It’s fair to say they established the Nati as one of Europe’s most exciting teams.
In fact, Italy felt their wrath at EURO 2024, with Switzerland running out 2-0 victors from their last-16 tie.
Shaqiri praised his former teammate in the build-up to Wednesday’s clash.
“It will be a tough game for the Swiss, and it will certainly not be easy to score against Yann,” he said.
Shaqiri’s statement wasn’t far from the truth.
Sommer has yet to concede a goal in the Champions League this season.
