What an emotional Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel said about Tyreek Hill police incident

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters Monday afternoon. He spoke for 27 minutes, quite passionately, with all but two questions dealing with Tyreek Hill's incident with police before Sunday's game.

The Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars and Hill caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to help Miami erase a 14-point deficit.

A full story is to come, but here are highlights:

  • On Tyreek Hill incident with police Sunday and any additional clarity: "It's been hard to find myself not get more upset, the more I think about it. That's because of my teammates and trying to put myself in that situation."

  • More on the incident: "Two things did come from the adversity. Super proud of teammates being teammates. And super, super proud of our guys understanding the civic responsibility of a platform and intending to do right by it."

  • On Hill: "I was very, very impressed by him individually and collectively his teammates." Adds that teammates "did a great job understanding what the game means to Tyreek."

  • On the body-cam video (which hasn't been released yet): "You let the process take its time. It's one thing for timeliness of it. For anyone to have an opinion, they should have facts before an opinion. I don't pretend to know all the things involved in that process." Adds, "I am confident this is too much in the spotlight to sweep under a rug."

  • Said teammates were waiting to greet Hill, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith when they arrived at the locker room to prepare for the game.

  • On how difficult it may be to prepare for a game Thursday night: Says he's grateful there is "a tangible goal" fast approaching vs. Buffalo. Says it can be a "gift" to have such a distraction.

  • On Jalen Ramsey and Jaelan Phillips: "They probably had some more snaps than we probably had in our minds." Jaylen Waddle should be fine."
