Emaree Winston, 2025 4-star TE chooses Texas, looks to replace Ja'Tavion Sanders' role

Texas recruiting gained another win on Monday, with 2025 4-star tight end Emaree Winston announcing his commitment.

A Georgia product, Winston chose Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns over Ohio State and UCF, citing Texas' usage of Ja'Tavion Sanders as part of the reason for his decision. As a self-proclaimed tight end receiver hybrid, he says he enjoyed seeing how the coaches moved Sanders around the field.

Texas Longhorns tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders is stopped by BYU Cougars cornerback Jakob Robinson on a fourth-down play in the red zone in the third quarter at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Saturday October 28, 2023.

“I just felt like the usage of JT Sanders is really a skilled tight end and they use him in the right way and me and him have the same skill set. The way they move him around is what I do at my school. I just want to do it at a higher level," Winston told On3.

The 6-foot-2, 238-pound tight end has a basketball background and is the second recruit to join Texas' 2025 class. His lone companion is 4-star quarterback KJ Lacey. Earlier today, Texas also won a commitment by flipping 2024 five-star safety Xavier Filsaime from Florida.

In addition, he cited his relationship with Sarkisian, coach Jeff Banks and Tashard Choice as an impactful part of why he chose Texas.
