Elliot Cadeau named among top one-and-done NBA draft prospects

Five-star guard Elliot Cadeau made the decision to reclassify from 2024 to 2023 and become eligible right away. He joins a North Carolina roster that has a lot of turnover with players departing and arriving from the transfer portal.

Cadeau will be a candidate to make an impact right away, as he was still one of the top players in the recruiting class despite reclassification. And ahead of the season, he’s earning some praise.

Jamie Shaw of On3 wrote his top one-and-done players in college basketball in terms of the 2024 NBA draft. At No. 2 on the list is Cadeau who trails only Carey Booth of Notre Dame:

The Skinny: The step that Elliot Cadeau took in the last six to eight months has been steep. He was already tracking as one of the top lead guards in his high school class. Since February, and through Geico Nationals and EYBL play, Cadeau has become now of the most intriguing set-up men in domestic amateur basketball. The question is his size, as the NBA has been moving toward taller, more lengthy playmakers. He will have the opportunity to show his abilities at UNC this year. There is a clear pathway for started minutes at point guard with a veteran team around him. Cadeau is quick-twitch on both ends of the floor, able to guard the ball in open space, touch the paint, and make a read in traffic. With a good start to the season, he could quickly move up NBA Draft boards.

The Tar Heels have high expectations for Cadeau who can come in right away and compliment the play of R.J. Davis. If Cadeau is as good as Shaw and other UNC fans believe he is, he should have a short but successful stay at Carolina.
