Is Drake Maye's status for Thursday's preseason opener in question?
North Carolina Tar Heels and New England Patriots fans will come together on Thursday, Aug. 8 for New England's NFL preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Why would the two fanbases unite? For a reason none other than the highly-anticipated debut of Drake Maye, the Patriots' third overall pick who starred the past two seasons as UNC's starting quarterback.
As is customary with NFL Preseason action, rookies typically play every game.
That might not be the case with Maye, though, as New England head coach Jerod Mayo wouldn't give a direct answer on who will play Thursday.
Maye likely will play in Thursday's game as it would be shocking not to see the rookie get snaps. Especially with a quarterback competition going on in New England.
If the Patriots are still trying to figure out whether Maye, Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe or Joe Milton will be their starting quarterback, it'd be wise for them to give Maye a few snaps.
