Drake Maye to start for New England Patriots in Week 6

With rookie quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels finding success early on, New England Patriots' Drake Maye has been waiting his turn behind veteran Jacoby Brissett. That is until Week 6.

After NFL insiders suggested that the Patriots could be making a move to replace Brissett as the starter, it's finally happening. Per Adam Schefter, the Patriots are turning to Maye to be their starting quarterback in Week 6 against the Houston Texans.

Maye will become the fourth rookie quarterback to start a game this season joining Williams, Daniels, and Bo Nix.

The former North Carolina quarterback was selected No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL draft as the Patriots have hopes that he will be their quarterback of the future. While Maye outplayed Brissett in the preseason, the Patriots opted to go with the veteran as the starer. But Brissett has struggled so far behind a very poor offensive line in New England.

Maye did appear in one game this season for the Patriots, entering the fourth quarter of a blowout loss to the New York Jets. The quarterback completed 4 of 8 passes for 22 yards and had some rushes as well.

The issue for New England has been that they have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL which could be a rude awakening for Maye in his first start. Still, this is a good chance for the team to get a look at their future at the position.
