Doug McDermott returns to Pacers in Marcus Morris trade. What to know about NBA veteran.

Doug McDermott is coming back to the Pacers.

At the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, Indiana traded with the San Antonio Spurs for McDermott, who previously played with the team from 2018 until 2021. The Pacers dealt Marcus Morris, who was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the day as part of a package for Buddy Hield.

Since being drafted 11th overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2014, McDermott has played for six teams. This is what you should know about McDermott, a small forward/power forward:

McDermott, 32, is listed at 6-6, 225 pounds.

Doug's dad, Greg, is the basketball coach at Creighton

Greg McDermott took over the head coaching job at Creighton in 2010 and holds a 316-156 record. He was a five-year assistant at North Dakota (where Doug was born) before taking head coaching positions at Wayne State (a Division II program in Nebraska), North Dakota State (one year), Northern Iowa (five years) and Iowa State (four years) before taking the Creighton job.

Doug played for his father in college from 2010 until 2014.

In 145 games, McDermott scored 3,150 career points, which was fifth-most in Division I history. He had career averages of 21.7 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Bluejays.

McDermott won all the major national player of the year awards and joined LaSalle's Lionel Simmons and Texas Southern's Harry Kelly as the only players in Division I history to compile at least 3,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

With San Antonio this season, McDermott has averaged 6 points, 1.2 assists and 1 rebound per game. He also has made 1.7 3-pointers a game and has shot 43.9% from beyond the arc.

For his career, he has averaged 9.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1 assist per contest. When he previously played for the Pacers, McDermott 10.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He also shot 50.7% from the floor during that time.
