Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel gives injury updates on River Cracraft, Cam Smith, David Long

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins receiver River Cracraft is expected to miss significant time after suffering an upper body injury on Saturday.

Cracraft, who had risen to the No. 3 receiver behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, was injured on the first-quarter play in which he caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Tua Tagovailoa, the only touchdown during Miami's 13-6 victory over the Washington Commanders.

Coach Mike McDaniel said Cracraft will be out for "sometime for sure" before adding "it doesn't appear to be season ending."

"No one likes to see injuries in general, I'm top of that list," McDaniel said. "If there's anybody equipped to handle adversity, it's River Cracraft. I don't now how many teams he's been on but it's a lot and he's worked his way to be a very good player in this league and that confidence will sustain."

"When he's back, I expect him to be the best version just like you saw."

Cracraft's injury could open the door for someone like Erik Ezukanma and Malik Washington.

Waddle has been sidelined a little more than a week with an unspecified injury and Odell Beckham Jr. has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of camp.

McDaniel gave an update on both.

"There has been a little stress on the depth in the (receivers) room," he said. "But there's also different caveats to that. Are we approaching Jaylen Waddle as we would in the season? The answer is, 'no.'

"We're getting a very clear picture of some very strong battles and giving guys opportunities. Some of the younger receivers got a lot of involvement. Whether they were getting targeted or not we got to see really who we're working with and we'll continue to do that."

McDaniel again gave no indication of when Beckham would get on the field.

"There's been progression every week," McDaniel said. "I just know what he signed up for, what we signed up for him is devolopment within the offense during the course of the season to be at our best when our best is required."

Other Dolphins injury updates

Cornerback Cam Smith is "week-to-week" after leaving Saturday's game with ice on his right hamstring.

"He did the most with his opportunities, he committed to things," McDaniel said. "He gave up plays that were learning lessons and made plays there was some growth there. Handled some adversity which is gigantic for a corner in this league.

"He's had some good development."

Linebacker David Long was cleared to return after leaving Saturday's game.
