Doak Campbell Stadium exceeded expectations for FSU football's Casey Roddick | The NoleBook
Casey Roddick's first time in Doak Campbell Stadium exceeded expectations.
The sixth-year senior transferred to Florida State football this past offseason for his final year of eligibility.
Roddick said he had high expectations for playing at the largest continuous brick structure in the United States. It even exceeded the season-opener in Orlando against LSU for him.
“That was the most electric stadium I’ve been in,” Roddick said following Wednesday’s practice. “Playing against LSU was pretty electric, but it wasn’t Doak Campbell. There’s a difference between playing an away game or a neutral game and playing a Doak Campbell.
“It feels like 90,000 people yelling at you. It’s amazing. Now going into the last time, it’s tough.”
Roddick added he feels sympathy for opponents playing in Tallahassee.
"Doak Campbell, that's something different," Roddick said. "I would hate to be an away team playing there."
Roddick's career with the Buffaloes spanned five seasons (2018-22), in which he appeared in 42 games and made 30 starts. Colorado was just 23-35 in his time, including 1-11 during the 2022 season.
In his first season with the Seminoles, they are off to a 10-0 start and achieved a perfect 8-0 record in ACC. FSU is ranked No. 4 in the College Football Rankings. Roddick will be among the seniors recognized ahead of Saturday's 6:30 p.m. kickoff against North Alabama. (Broadcast: The CW Network).
"It's been a great journey. I have learned a lot and grown a lot mentally and physically," Roddick said of his time with the Seminoles.
Here are observations from the Democrat writers in attendance for Wednesday's practice ahead of the Week 12 matchup.

Money downs: right tackle jumps early, Travis throws to Johnny Wilson too high and Shyheim Brown almost picks it off. Throw to Keon Coleman short of the sticks, brought down short. If Travis made that throw a couple of seconds earlier, they would have gotten the first down. Douglas with a catch in traffic with Jarrian Jones draped over him. Great hands to finish the catch going to the ground.
Malcolm Ray got to the backfield right away to blow the play dead on Brock Glenn's sack. Glenn hits Vandravius Jacobs on a slant route, Jacobs can make a move and turn upfield for a big gain. Glenn hits Toafili for another first down. Tofaili sat down en route and got the yardage needed.
Moved inside at drill 16.
11vs11 indoors: Glenn to Campbell. Goes up huge to try and score. Might have been short. Deuce Spann makes a great grab and gets feet in bounds in the corner of the end zone for TD from AJ Duffy.

Travis to Kentron Poitier for a TD. Great route by Poitier to get past the scout team corner.
Next play Travis hits Jaheim Bell for a long pass.
11vs11 scout: Travis with dimes to Morlock and Wilson over the middle of the field. Hits Douglas on a good rollout a few plays later. With heavy pressure, he fires a dime to Doiglas for a TD from 35 yards out.
