D.K. Metcalf, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll were shirtless the first time they met
There are no shortage of strange stories when it comes to the NFL pre-draft process and the draft itself.
Between the odd questions coaches and scouts will ask prospective players to the vocabulary used to describe players (“bender,” “dancing bear”) to tales of getting the “You’ve been drafted!” phone call while in the bathroom, most play a role in the entertainment the draft offers.
And here’s another one that we’ve never seen before.
Pete Carroll tried pose-down with D.K. Metcalf
The Seattle Seahawks drafted receiver D.K. Metcalf with the last pick of the second round. Metcalf was a pre-draft star, for both his impressive combine numbers and his chiseled physique.
When Seattle coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider met with media on Friday night after making their picks, they told a quick story about the first time Carroll met Metcalf.
Before he entered his interview with the Seahawks at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Indianapolis during the combine, Seattle-area scout Aaron Hineline convinced Metcalf to walk in shirtless.
Not to be outdone, the 67-year-old Carroll quickly stripped off his shirt too.

‘It kind of pissed me off’
Carroll and Schneider drew laughs as they recalled the story on Friday night.
“Well, I was kind of surprised when he came into our interview with his shirt off,” Carroll said.
“Aaron got him to take his shirt off... It was pretty funny,” Schneider chimed in.
Reporters didn’t quite believe the duo.
“No, we’re serious, he did,” Carroll said. “He came in with his shirt off. And it kind of pissed me off, so I took my shirt off too.
“Not for long, though.”
“Too long,” Schneider quipped.
‘Why y’all wait this long?’
Metcalf almost immediately began crying when he got the call from Schneider that the Seahawks were drafting him, but after months of hype and seemingly a lifetime of working toward that very moment, Metcalf had an honest question for Carroll after Schneider handed him the phone.
“Why y’all wait this long, man, damn” Metcalf said through tears.
