Dillon Brooks earns NBA-leading 16th technical foul, suspended for Grizzlies-Clippers Sunday

Dillon Brooks entered Friday tied for the NBA lead with 15 technical fouls, one shy of an automatic suspension and $5,000 fine. It was only a matter of time.

Brooks got a technical foul with 5:45 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Memphis Grizzlies' loss at the Denver Nuggets. That means he'll miss the Grizzlies' next game Sunday at the Los Angeles Clippers (9 p.m., ESPN/Bally Sports Southeast).

Brooks and Nuggets center Nikola Jokic received double technicals after Brooks made contact with Jokic following a made shot. Jokic put his finger in Brooks' face as the two exchanged words.

Per NBA rules, after a player receives their 16th technical foul, they are fined $5,000 for every additional technical foul and suspended for one game on every second technical foul. So Brooks will be suspended again if he reaches 18 technical fouls, 20 and so on.

It's another key loss for the Grizzlies on this road trip. Brandon Clarke left Friday's game with a lower left leg injury and his status for Sunday is to be determined. Clarke's injury was non-contact and he left the arena on a golf cart.
