Did Missouri football climb in national polls after Oklahoma heroics? Here’s where MU landed

Missouri football’s last-gasp comeback was worth one spot in the coaches poll.

The Tigers, after putting up 14 points in the final 63 seconds of the game to defeat Oklahoma 30-23 on Saturday in Columbia, moved up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll and are now the No. 21-ranked team in the country.

Mizzou leapfrogged LSU, which was hammered 42-13 by Alabama at home, and jumped above Iowa State, which lost on the road at Kansas. Colorado, which beat Texas Tech on the road, moved ahead of MU after previously being ranked behind coach Eli Drinkwitz’s Tigers.

After the game on SEC Network, Drinkwitz told sideline reporter Cole Cubelic that the Tigers’ win over Oklahoma “keeps us in the playoff hunt.”

Elsewhere in the SEC, Texas was ranked No. 3; Tennessee was No. 4; Alabama was No. 9; Georgia was No. 10; Ole Miss was No. 11; Texas A&M was No. 15; and LSU was No. 22. The means there were nine total SEC teams in the top 25, with Mizzou ranked seventh among them.

The Big Ten has four schools in the top six teams in the poll, with Oregon and Ohio State at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, and Penn State staying a spot ahead of Indiana at Nos. 5 and 6.

Undefeated BYU is the top-ranked Big 12 school at No. 8 after its comeback win in the Holy War over Utah. Miami is the top ranked ACC school at No. 12 after its loss to unranked Georgia Tech. Boise State is the top ranked Group of Five school and tied with SMU at No. 13 in the poll.

Missouri moves back into AP poll

Missouri climbed back inside the AP poll on Sunday, taking the No 24 spot in the top 25.

Mizzou was the first team outside of the top 25 in the last edition. It was the first time the Tigers had been ranked outside the top 25 since Week 7 of the 2023 season.

The Tigers climbed above Iowa State, Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt, who all dropped out of the poll. Mizzou lost ground to South Carolina, which was the second team out in the previous poll and will host MU this upcoming Saturday.

The Gamecocks ranked one spot ahead of Mizzou at No. 23, meaning next week's game in Columbia, South Carolina, will be a top-25 matchup.
