Detroit Tigers trade outfielder Mark Canha to San Francisco Giants
The Detroit Tigers have traded Mark Canha.
Canha, a 35-year-old outfielder, has been traded to the San Francisco Giants. He is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, so he is a two-month rental for the Giants.
In return, the Tigers acquired right-handed reliever Eric Silva from the Giants. The 21-year-old has a 4.35 ERA with 18 walks and 51 strikeouts across 41⅓ innings in 28 games for Double-A Richmond.
Canha is hitting .231 with seven home runs, 42 walks and 79 strikeouts across 93 games in 2024, his 10th MLB season. His .350 on-base percentage is the lowest mark of his career since 2018.
He has struggled since May 1, hitting .211 in 64 games.

The Tigers acquired Canha in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers at the beginning of last offseason, then picked up his $11.5 million club option for the 2024 campaign.
Silva throws a 93 mph fastball with ride, missing bats by working at the top of the strike zone. He also implements a high-spin curveball, averaging more than 3,000 rpm, and an average sweeper. His upside is found within the fact that he has good feel for spinning the ball.
Silva, though, is a reliever — rather than a starter — because he has command concerns.
