Detroit Tigers' Spencer Torkelson hits first home run with Triple-A Toledo after demotion

It took Spencer Torkelson 38 games to hit his first home run with the Detroit Tigers this year. It took him only four to hit one over the fence with Triple-A Toledo.

Torkelson was sent down to Toledo after a horrendous start to the season, hitting just .201 with four home runs, 56 strikeouts and 16 walks over 54 games.

In the games before the decision was made to send Torkelson down, things had gone from bad to worse. He had a .115 average with 12 strikeouts in the seven games before his demotion, including an 0-16 stretch, helping push the Tigers to make the decision to send him down.

Since getting to Toledo, Torkelson has been hitting the ball well, although a call-up shouldn't be expected in the near future, as the Tigers want him to continue working on his mechanics. In the three games he played before Friday, Torkelson was 5-for-12 with two doubles.

On Friday, the former No. 1 overall pick hit one of his patented "Tork Bombs," launching a line drive to left field with an exit velocity of 110.8 mph that traveled 398 feet.

Including his 54 games with the Tigers this year, it was his fifth home run of the season and his third against a left-handed pitcher.
