Detroit Pistons trade for Simone Fontecchio, Utah Jazz sweet-shooting forward

Detroit Pistons guard Marcus Sasser defends Utah Jazz forward Simone Fontecchio during the first half at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023.

The Detroit Pistons were expected to make at least one more move, weeks after clearing cap space in a trade with the Washington Wizards.

About 26 hours before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, they did just that Wednesday, according to ESPN. The Pistons are acquiring Utah Jazz forward Simone Fontecchio for Kevin Knox II, the rights to Gabriele Procida and a 2024 second-round pick (more favorable of Washington or Memphis). That selection is currently No. 32 overall.

Fontecchio, 28, is 6 feet 7 and shooting 39.1% from 3-point range this season.
