Detroit Lions take Iowa TE Sam LaPorta in second round of NFL draft
The Detroit Lions started Day 2 of the 2023 NFL draft by taking Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta with the third pick of the second round, No. 34 overall.
LaPorta is the all-time receiving leader for a tight end at Iowa, which has produced Greg Kittle and former Lions draft pick T.J. Hockenson.
The Lions drafted Alabama running back Jahmyr GIbbs at No. 12 overall and Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell at No. 18 in the first round Thursday, eschewing positional value to take the best players on their board.
