Speaking after Germany’s 2-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica, VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav spoke about his two goals for the side.

On the game and his double, Undav said:

“It was clear to us that Bosnia had a strong team. After we conceded the goal, things got heated again. We are happy that we finished the game. Scoring goals for the national team is particularly nice. I am very happy to have scored twice today.”

The 28-year-old opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he converted a Florian Wirtz backheel. Undav would then combine with his Stuttgart teammate Maximilian Mittelstädt when he connected on the end of the left-back’s cross into the Bosnian box. According to Optathis was the first time in 15 years that a goal was scored for the national team by a player from Stuttgart scoring off of an assist from a player from Stuttgart. The last time this happened was when Christian Träsch assisted Mario Gomez

Undav nearly got his hat-trick in the second half when Mittelstädt again fired a cross into the box only for Tim Kleindienst to get a foot on it, in an offside position, and Undav to convert the rebound.

For one of the goals, Undav also had time to taunt Stuttgart teammate Ermedin Demirovic as he used the Bosnian’s celebration. However, the pair had spoken about it beforehand that if either if them scored in the game then they would use the other’s goal celebration.

Germany’s next game is against old rivals the Netherlands in Munich on Monday evening.
