Dawn Staley demands apology for CBS' 'offensive' Kamilla Cardoso, March Madness reference

South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley took to social media and demanded an apology to senior center Kamilla Cardoso after an ad ran on CBS Radio on Wednesday morning.

In the CBS Sports Minute read from JR Jackson, known as JR Sport Brief, he brought up March Madness and listed players who made the women's NCAA Tournament exciting.

"I'm more excited for the women's tournament," he said in the ad. "I'm ready for Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark and the giant Brazilian woman that knocks people over."

Staley took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and tagged CBS Sports and 107.5 The Game, the CBS affiliate station that aired the ad in Columbia, to ask for an apology.

"Never thought I'd hear one of my players described in such an offensive way," Staley posted. "I'm not sitting this one out. Kamilla deserves an apology."

107.5 The Game apologized to Staley in response to the social media post, acknowledging that while it doesn't control what airs during sports minutes, it has a responsibility for what plays on the station. The station also shared an apology on air.

Jackson also apologized to Cardoso and South Carolina on social media, taking responsibility for his remarks.

Staley said executives from CBS Sports reached out to apologize to her directly.
