Darrell Jackson receives political support after Tez Walker NCAA waiver reversal
One day after UNC wide receiver Tez Walker was granted a transfer waiver from the NCAA, making him immediately eligible for the rest of the 2023 season, the pressure is being turned up from Florida politicians for the same treatment for Florida State defensive lineman Darrell Jackson.
Jimmy Patronis - Florida's Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshall - tweeted out a strong statement directed at the NCAA on Friday morning.
“The @NCAA are a bunch of out-of-touch hypocrites. NC threatens antitrust allegations and they punted to save face on their terrible decision. #FSU’s Darrell Jackson must play NOW. We’ll take legal action soon if they don’t reverse course,” Patronis said on his Twitter.

Jackson is ineligible to play after the NCAA denied his waiver to play this season following his second collegiate transfer earlier this fall.
FSU head coach Mike Norvell clarified last week that Jackson could play in the postseason for the No. 5 Seminoles (4-0, 2-0 ACC).
Jackson transferred to FSU this past offseason from the University of Miami to be closer to his mother, who has a medical condition. Jackson began his college career at Maryland in 2021 before using his one-time transfer to UM.
He grew up in Havana, about 20 minutes away from the FSU campus. Norvell announced on Aug. 8 Jackson's waiver was denied. That was followed by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio sending a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker "requesting his [Jackson's] hardship be granted a second look" on Aug. 9.
Despite not being eligible to play, Jackson has been practicing with the team.
Walker and UNC have fought for a waiver throughout the summer and fall due to the circumstances of his transfer. The NCAA cited "new information" from UNC that led to the reversal of its original decision.
