From Damari Alston to Luke Deal, these are some players on Auburn football's culture council
AUBURN — Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze has established a culture council ahead of his first season with the Tigers.
Freeze, who met with reporters following Saturday's scrimmage, mentioned that sophomore running back Damari Alston was a member of the group.
"He’s been one of the leaders," Freeze said of Alston. "... He was elected to the culture council unanimously. That speaks as high as any mark you could give when your team says this is a guy that drives the culture that we want."
Alston revealed Monday a few other players who have been named to the council this preseason. He noted he was probably forgetting a teammate or two.
"It's a few of us on that list, we're all working together," Alston said Monday. "It's probably about eight of us. If I could name them right now it's probably me, Keionte (Scott), Elijah (McAllister), Jay Fair, Jayson Jones, Luke Deal and a few more others — Payton Thorne.

"We haven't really had a conversation about it, but I know what he (Freeze) expects out of me on the field. And when the team isn't coming together as well he expects me to go out there and tell everybody to pick it up. That's just what he expects out of us, really."
Alston, who is entering his second season on the Plains, is a former four-star recruit in the Class of 2022. He rushed for 85 yards on 14 attempts as a freshman last season playing behind future NFL draft pick Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter, who is expected to be Auburn's feature back in 2023.
