Did Damar Hamlin have a heart attack?
No. Cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack.
A cardiac arrest is when a person’s heart suddenly stops pumping blood and they stop breathing normally. The heart needs to be restarted and cardiac arrest can be fatal within minutes. Between 70% and 90% of people who have a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital die − often within minutes − before reaching a hospital, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Risks to heart or brain damage after a cardiac arrest are high even with immediate treatment.
According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a person may be having a cardiac arrest if they:
A person may be having a cardiac arrest if they:
Collapse suddenly and lose consciousness (pass out)
Are not breathing or their breathing is ineffective or they are gasping for air
Do not respond to shouting or shaking
Do not have a pulse
A heart attack is when blood flow to the heart is blocked, though many cardiac arrests in adults happen because of a heart attack.

What is commotio cordis?
Commotio cordis is when blunt trauma to the chest results in an irregular heart rhythm, ventricular fibrillation, in an otherwise health heart. It often leads to sudden death. It is seen mostly in youth athletes in sports with projectiles that can strike participants in the middle of the chest. Baseball is the most common sport in which commotio cordis occurs. The blow point is near the heart's left ventricle at a precise moment in the heart's rhythm.
"The athlete will typically stumble forward for a few seconds, which is followed by unconsciousness, no breathing, and no pulse," according to the University of Connecticut's Korey Stringer Institute.
The key to resuscitation is rapid, direct current defibrillation using an AED.
Survival rate drops precipitously with each passing minute and falls to 3% when resuscitation is delayed beyond three minutes, according to a National Library of Medicine study. Data gathered using the commotio cordis swine model suggest that defibrillation within 1 minute of ventricular fibrillation onset results in a 100% survival rate and that defibrillation after 2 minutes results in an 80% survival rate, MedScape says.

At the appropriate time, I’m sure that we’ll have a conversation around the next steps regarding the game.”

What did Skip Bayless tweet about Damar Hamlin?
The NFL said it never considered finishing the game on Monday. FS1 talk show host Skip Bayless came under fire for suggesting the league wouldn't, or shouldn't, postpone the game.
No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game - but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome ... which suddenly seems so irrelevant," tweeted Bayless.

Several prominent athletes criticized Bayless' tweet and called for his firing. Bayless later apologized and tried to clarify his tweet.
Nothing is more important than that young man's health. That was the point of my last tweet. I'm sorry if that was misunderstood but his health is all that matters. Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him & will continue to.

“How do you resume play after you’ve seen such a traumatic event occur in front of you in real time?” said Troy Vincent, the NFL executive vice president of football operations. " It never crossed our mind to talk about warming up to resume play."
