Jerry Jones gives Dak Prescott another weapon, selects CeeDee Lamb with No. 17 overall pick

Dak Prescott will have another high profile target this fall.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Oklahoma standout CeeDee Lamb with the No. 17 overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night.

Lamb racked up 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns with the Sooners last season, his third with the team. He was widely expected to be one of the first receivers taken in the first round, though fell to No. 17 behind Alabama receivers Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy. Ruggs was the first receiver off the board, landing with the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 12, and Jeudy went to the Denver Broncos at No. 15.

Jerry Jones makes pick from yacht

Team owner Jerry Jones, who doubles as the team’s general manager, was reportedly going to be drafting alone from his home to follow social distancing guidelines — something that made Cowboys fans nervous ahead of time. Jones ended up having his family, including director of player personnel Stephen Jones, by his side on his massive. $250 million yacht after all.

The Cowboys didn’t necessarily need another top receiver like Lamb, with both Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup available to Prescott while Ezekiel Elliott handles the ground game. In fact, many expected Jones to bolster his defense with his first round pick.

The move to grab Lamb, though, certainly doesn’t hurt given how he’s dominated in the Big 12 the past two seasons and helped lead the Sooners to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances.

Assuming Jones can get a long-term deal with Prescott done — something the two sides have been working on for quite some time — the Dallas offense should be extremely fun to watch this fall.
