Cubs players troll Cardinals fans by joining in booing of 'loser' Kris Bryant

It's so good to have the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals rivalry back in full force.

The century-long arch-enemies are renewing pleasantries this weekend with a three-game series in St. Louis. And for this round, there's a little extra animosity. At least from the fans perspective.

That’s because the Cubs’ Kris Bryant offended much of the Cardinals fan base when he called St. Louis a “boring” city back in January.

The comment itself seemed to be tongue-in-cheek, but Cardinals fans haven’t forgotten. Perhaps that’s in part due to Yadier Molina calling Bryant a “loser.” Regardless, it was expected that Bryant would be heavily booed when he took his first at-bat this season at Busch Stadium.

That moment came on Friday night, and Cardinals fans didn’t disappoint.

What we weren’t expecting though was Bryant’s teammates, and even manager Joe Maddon, joining in.

That is awesome.

The Cubs always seem to know how to keep things loose during the stressful grind that is baseball’s 162-game regular season. In this instance, the opportunity to troll fans of their biggest rival, while also needling a popular teammate, proved too strong to resist.

Of course, the Cubs social media team jumped in too. Though their focus was primarily on Cardinals fans.

Bryant got the last word in his first plate appearance, ripping a single off the glove of third baseman Matt Carpenter. He finished 1-for-5 with two strikeouts.

More importantly, the Cardinals earned a 2-1 victory on Carpenter’s walk-off single in the 10th inning.

You can bet there will be a lot of back and forth all weekend as these rival teams and fan bases battle for pride and bragging rights.
