Cristiano Ronaldo won't face criminal charges for 2009 rape allegation
The Las Vegas district attorney announced on Monday that Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be charged or prosecuted for the 2009 alleged rape of Kathryn Mayorga.

Mayorga is identified as “V” in the release from the Vegas DA, as the names of sexual assault victims are not typically released. Mayorga identified herself as the victim to the media when she went to the police to reopen the case.
Both Ronaldo and Mayorga admit that they were together the night the alleged rape happened in 2009. The two met in Las Vegas and he invited her up to his room, which is where their stories diverge. Ronaldo says that the two had consensual sex, while Mayorga says that he forced himself on her and penetrated her vaginally and anally while she begged him to stop. After the incident, she went to the police to report a sexual assault, but wouldn’t reveal the identity of her alleged attacker at the time.
The Las Vegas police say that her reluctance to name her assaulter prevented them from following investigative protocols. Mayorga and Ronaldo reached a civil settlement in 2010, which paid her $375,000. Mayorga had sought to have that settlement voided when she went to police in August of 2018 to have the case reopened.
The case was reopened and investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, but the nine years between the initial police report and the investigation proved costly. The case has been closed and no charges will be filed.
"A Request for Prosecution was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office on July 8, 2019. Based upon a review of the information presented at this time, the allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming."
