This crazy double is the closest thing you'll see to a baseball hole-in-one

It took hundreds of years, but we finally figured out the equivalent of a hole-in-one in baseball. Cleveland Indians infielder Rob Refsnyder pulled it off during Thursday’s spring training game against the San Diego Padres.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Refsnyder drilled a double off Joey Lucchesi. But this wasn’t a normal double. This was a once-in-a-lifetime type hit.

Yep, we can’t say we’ve ever seen that before. Refsnyder smacks the ball straight away to center. Realizing he has no play on it, the centerfielder turns to play the ball off the outfield wall.

He had the right idea, but just didn’t realize how perfectly the ball was placed. It drops straight into a small hole in the outfield wall in centerfield, likely where one of the broadcast cameras were shooting the game.

What are the chances of that happening? That’s mostly a rhetorical question, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the answer was “one-in-a-million.”

The ball was so perfectly placed that we’re actually a little disappointed the rulebook says that’s a double. It be worth at least … let’s say four runs. And Refsnyder should also get a voucher for a free ice cream at the concession stand. That just feels right.
