Corey Davis shows on great TD catch why he was the fifth pick of the draft

There’s a reason the Tennessee Titans drafted receiver Corey Davis with the fifth overall pick.

It wasn’t always apparent during the regular season. Davis got hurt early on, had a slow start, and finished his rookie season without a touchdown reception.

His first career score came at a great time for the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were big underdogs coming into Saturday night’s divisional-round playoff game against the New England Patriots, but Davis’ remarkable one-handed catch in the end zone gave them a 7-0 lead.

Davis got one-on-one coverage and went deep. Quarterback Marcus Mariota laid up a nice pass to him. Davis got his left arm loose against tight coverage, caught the ball and managed to maintain control as he went through the ground, all while making sure he got both feet in bounds. It was pretty.

Davis was an elite prospect coming out of Western Michigan, and was the rare receiver who goes in the top five of the draft. It’s hard to call Davis’ rookie season anything but a disappointment. He posted just 375 yards all season. But he will finish his first season with at least one amazing highlight. It came at a perfect time for his team, too.
