Columbus Crew and Wilfried Nancy agree to contract extension; terms undisclosed
The Crew and coach Wilfried Nancy have agreed to terms on a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.
While exact details of Nancy's new contract remain undisclosed, Crew president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said the coach's contract coming into the season still had "multiple years" remaining on it.
This marks the first extension for Nancy since being named the eighth coach in club history in December 2022. In his first season with the Crew, Nancy guided the team to its third MLS Cup and became the first Black coach to win the title.
More recently, Nancy and the Crew advanced to the club's first CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals berth and did so in historic fashion, defeating Tigres on its home field. Before Columbus' victory, no MLS team had beaten a Liga MX opponent without winning its home-leg or had advanced in penalty kicks on Mexican soil.
"It is an honor to be the head coach and sign this contract extension,” Nancy said in a statement. “We have a clear vision as a club of what we want to do and how we can achieve it, and we can continue to write our story and evoke emotions. With humility, I’m very proud of what we have accomplished together during the past year."
Nancy is 24-10-13 with the Crew and 5-1-0 in the postseason.
Prior to joining the Columbus, Nancy spent two seasons as head coach of CF Montreal. It was with that organization that he got his MLS start, coaching within its academy.
